On October 14th, I'll be off on two new adventures. I'll head to Wallops Island for the NASA Explorer Schools Coastal Observations Workshop. This workshop will focus on the study of coastal oceanography from space, shipboard and in the laboratory. I will participate in activities that integrate science observations from space with science presentations, shipboard research cruises and laboratory analysis of oceanographic research including phytoplankton, chlorophyll and water chemistry. I fly back into Charleston on Saturday night, October 17th.
At 5:30 AM on Sunday, October 18th, Ms. Poling (4th grade teacher) and I will fly to Ontario, California. We will spend the week learning about the Golden Apple Valley Radio Telescope (GAVRT). The Lewis Education Center in Apple Valley conducts these workshops for teachers. Then, the teachers will return to teach students how to research and conduct their research using GAVRT via the internet! We'll be attending this workshop with funding from the WV Space Grant Consortium.
Follow my adventures!
